Every wolf at Wolf Hollow had a story. Some were brought to the sanctuary because they had been horribly mistreated. Others were in danger of being killed, and still others were there because they were not able to be released into the wild.
Alba was a female Arctic wolf and this was her identification which hung on the enclosure that she was housed in. Alba was a rescue animal who was in dreadful condition when she arrived at Wolf Hollow. She had lost an ear, her tail, and her jaw and feet had rips, scars, and open wounds. She had a tattoo in her ear, which identified her as originally coming from the Metro Toronto Zoo. In the mid-1980s the Toronto Zoo did not have a breeding policy, so surplus animals like wolves were sold. In Alba's case, she had been sold to a dog breeder who wanted to try mating her with his dogs. The dogs attacked Alba and left her in a pitiful condition. Alba was rescued and brought to the sanctuary.
