The Story:
Highland Street, Haliburton, circa 1950. In the years immediately following World War II (1939-1945), the Grand Central Hotel continued to dominate the main street. Post-1945, the building was renovated and operated under new management as the Highlander Hotel. A modern 5 & 10 cent store and a new Bank of Montreal building were erected to the East, replacing the hotel's original wooden structures, and setting a precedent for a changing post-war streetscape.
