The Story:
Daniel Gorrie's general store, Highland Street, late 19th century. Gorrie carried an extensive line of household merchandise, but his stock also included farm implements and blacksmith supplies. Prominent in the community, Gorrie understood his customers and sought their business through his liberal trading policy. Bartered farm produce, butter, furs, and wood products were accepted as payment for store merchandise, appealing to a wide cross-section of the community and creating much goodwill. The Bargain Shop now occupies this site.
