The Story:
William "Billy" Lucas's house and shaving parlour, circa 1910. Lucas had this house built around 1900 with provision for his barbering shop at front. Note the tapering square barber pole in the foreground. It is believed he also worked from the premises as an undertaker on occasion. Tastefully rendered in red brick, the upper gables of the premises were decoratively faced with stucco into which was set colourful shards of glass and pottery. When not occupied with barbering, Lucas was active in the local Salvation Army, of which he was a pioneer. Today the building is the home of Country Pickin's (sic) Fashions.
