The Story:
George S. Thompson arrived in Haliburton in 1869. In 1877 George Thompson married Jane Ann Thomson and began to raise a family. This photo of the couple dates circa 1900.
Thompson had an interesting career both locally and in Lindsay. He later became a government ranger in North Bay. He passed away at Copper Cliff (near Sudbury) after an adventurous life. His book "Up to Date or the Life of a Lumberman, published in 1895 relates a first-hand account of lumbering in Haliburton in the 1870s.
