After aiding a mother during a home birth or a delivery at the Outpost, the role of the nurse continued. The Outpost nurse offered parenting classes to new mothers, weighed and measured children as they matured, taught public health lectures, performed routine health checks in schools, and provided first aid to community members in the case of emergencies.

In small rural communities like Wilberforce, the Red Cross Outpost nurses were a constant presence in the lives of its members. Their positive influence on the health and wellbeing of the communities they served has ensured that their contributions will not soon be forgotten.
