Description:
Wood framed black chalkboard with a chalk ledge. This chalkboard dates from approximately 1935 and was not originally used in this schoolhouse.
Notes:
The original blackboard in the schoolhouse was three very wide planks, approximately a foot wide each. As shown in the photograph, these planks extend the full length of the front of the classroom and were said to be painted with a special "chalkboard-black paint". A section of the original planks beside the newer blackboard was repainted with chalkboard paint during the restoration of the building.
